I’m a sucker for a good inventor story. A story about someone seeing a problem, coming up with a killer solution, trying to convince others of its killerness, being rejected time after time and then saying fuck it I’ll build it myself. And then kicking ass. That’s just what James Dyson did with the world’s first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner. His cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner.

The story is fantastic (as are his other inventions).

I recently heard an internet radio spot for the Dyson vacuum — voice over by Dyson himself — and he ended it by saying “I just think things should work properly.” That’s just beautiful, I just think things should work properly. Sums it up for me.

No, this is'nt a new way to play with yourself...

How exactly does it work?

When you upload the image to the server or after it has been downloaded from the web, it is converted to a preview jpeg image. The Flash application running in the browser then loads this preview image and allows you to crop and resize the image.
The Flash application then sends the coordinates, desired paper size and desired size to the server.After you have set the options and the rasterbation begins, you may end up in a queue. Rasterbation uses a lot of memory, hence this conserves server resources and actually reduces the average time users have to wait.
When your turn begins, the server examines the original image (preview image is not used here to ensure maximum quality). The image is divided into squares. Each square maps to a dot in the output. The average brightness and color values of the origin square determine the size (and color if desired) of the output dot - bright area produces a small dot.
Vector representations of the dots are written into a pdf document. When the entire image is processed, your browser is sent to a different page, which will instruct it to download the pdf file.

Great idea... although the SITE could use some re-thinking.

The S.E.T.J.I. Proyect (Search for External Tribe´s Jellicle Intelligence) is based in the diversity of Jellicle Tribes over the Net Universe. It´s first target is to locate as many tribes as possible, being able to set a referal point for them and make a contact possible.
For the purpose the Proyect starts setting a central point (this page, the radio-telescope of Mt. Jellicibo) and asking every Jellicle for support.

Lost in Translation

You know how it feels to suddenly not have something in your life, that you have become as attached to as your mind?

It feels so... empty...

Why is it that when something is no longer part of our lives, it changes us so drastically?
Changes or lifestyles... our moods... even our feelings towards parts of our lives that are still there...

That should mean that if we had that something back in our lives, we would be correspondingly elated... overjoyed...

But does that really happen?
