MANOI, the robot with some KHR-1inside You probably know Kondo's KHR-1, the small remote controlled robot (and if you have no clue what we're talking about, use the search function on Akiba ;) ). In the same style, here's MANOI, a robot that uses the same engines as the KHR-1. MANOI will be offered by the famous Japanese KYOSHO company and will cost 1100 EUR from June 2006 onwards.

Honda's new version of their ASIMO humanoid robot is selling out and going to work for the man. After pulling crossing guard duty and being a general bohemian, ASIMO has been upgraded to handle office work with his new "total control system" that allows him to pull receptionist duty, act as an information guide, or do delivery service.

Well, Evergreen are selling an MP3 player for 7 euros.


This litle beast is amazing. Runs for 5 hours on 1 AAA, and uses 1GB SD cards.

We should have disposable MP3 players quite soon, I reckon...

Gramophone records, magnetic tapes, vinyl records, digital samplers and computers have already liberated the samples long ago. But still - to infringe copyrights - one has to decide which sample one actually wants to steal. One has to arduously load audio files into sample editors or sequencers. One has to cut, copy, paste and arrange. All that takes precious creative energy and a lot of time.

Enough of that!

In the authours words:

" The core analysis / database software was written in C++ and Python. The interface to the database and a/v playback was realized using Pure Data.

Rebreathers can cost thousands of dolar-es, but Tom Rose has a pretty nifty site that documets how he made his own.

Apart from costing next to nothing, it only weighs around 5 kilos, which is about 15% of the weight of similar SCUBA gear for a 1 hour dive.

This is just what I was looking for.

Nicorolla has documentd an easy way to power, start and shutdown a PC in the car.

I got my old 700 Celeron laptop which should do nicely for this project.
